Tiger Trout
Habitat and Diet:
The tiger trout is a cross between the brown trout and the
brook trout. Tiger trout thrive in cold water environments,
especially lakes. They do very well in places with many
freshwater plants.
Tiger trout have very large appetites and eat mainly small fish.
They will also eat insects and larvae.
Relationship to humans:
Although tiger trout are very rare in the wild, humans have
learned how to cross-breed brook trout and brown trout very
well. They are prized by anglers because of their wild marking
patterns. The tiger trout, because of its large appetite, is very
good at helping control populations of small fish in areas
where there are too many.
Fun/Unusual fact:
Tiger trout are sterile, meaning that they cannot breed with
each other and make more tiger trout.
