Final Major Project Context Page

Smart Tags concept is simple, I want to create a tag that will revolutionise the way we shop. The tag will be fitted with a QR code or similar, that will be located on the item of clothing. The tag/label will be merged with the selected brands app, personalised to their requirements. On this app, you will be able to add the desired product to your personal basket which will be situated in your app. You can then purchase it there, instead of waiting in a queue. This concept minimises labour, therefore bad customer service. There will also be other features on the app that will be able to authenticate products, recommend other matching clothing in your basket, help shop security and obviously carry this all out in any language. I will patent the tag/label so other company’s may not use it for a fee. The app will be personalised for clients that have purchased my product to fit with their brand, which I’m sure could be licenced.

I first thought of the idea when I was waiting in a queue with my mother and there was only one person working on the counter. I said to mum imagine if you could just walk out and that’s where it all started. I’m a very impatient person so when I thought of the basics ideas towards my business it got me excited. Afterwards, when I started looking into the idea further I found that there was a huge gap in the market for this type of service as everyone who was doing was missing that luxurious and slick feel so they weren’t that appealing to big companies.

The reason I would provide a service like this into my company as I feel that retail is really missing that technological advancement like all the other industries that have moulded into the new era. When watching the video about Henry Hollands technology walk someone said, “fashion and technology should be in bed together all the time” I completely agree. The way technology has helped us advance imagine what it could do in the fashion industry. Throughout the project I have discovered that a service like this is needed more than I originally thought it could help fashion company’s all through the supply chain.

When starting the project, I quickly realised I needed to look at the business from a 360 view to help people understand what I am introducing into the fashion market and why it is needed. A service like Smart Tag is desired for the fashion industry the public just doesn’t know it. The possibilities for a company like this is endless. A gadget like this won’t only be able to help you through the supply chain. It will be able to reduce labour costs this is due to the condensed amount of staff that will need to manage the counter this will save a company a lot of money. As Smart Tag will be working with big established company’s it will be on contracts, meaning the company will be able to expand quickly.
