Prepare for a spring getaway to D. C., arriving during one of the city’ s most vibrant— and busiest— seasons. Full of joy, high anticipation, and hope that the blooms will happen during the festival itself— a moment never guaranteed— there are countless activities and events to enjoy.
For nearly a century, the National Cherry Blossom Festival has been considered one of Washington, D. C.’ s most significant annual events. Gaining recognition on a national and international level— from Japan and beyond— the festival attracts over 1.5 million enthusiastic locals and visitors each year. This year’ s festival will be held from March 20 to April 12, 2026, featuring special programming including a highly anticipated opening ceremony, performances by renowned artists, a lively parade, and more.
Celebrating the spring season and its upcoming bloom, the National Cherry Blossom Festival has a rich and exciting history dating back to 1912. It commemorates the 3,000 cherry trees gifted to the U. S. capital by Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo. Representing a long-standing friendship between the United States and Japan, the festival continues to honor tradition, offer educational opportunities about its fascinating history, and attract awe-inspired spectators today.

PINK TIE PARTY

Although technically happening before the festival officially starts, the Pink Tie Party will kick things off in an exciting way. Secure tickets to this 21 + evening event, held at the iconic Union Station. Guests can look forward to enjoying food and drinks from notable local vendors and will have the chance to take part in a benefit auction supporting the festival’ s mission. Attendees are encouraged to dress in their best pink and floral attire, reflecting the beauty of the cherished cherry blossom tree! Location: Union Station, Washington, D. C. Date: March 13, 2026

OPENING CEREMONY

Co-presented with The Japan Foundation, the National Cherry Blossom Festival’ s
Opening Ceremony honors the unique history and friendship between Japan and the United States. It will feature displays of camaraderie and showcase well-known artists performing unforgettable live music and dance acts representing both countries. BLOSSOM KITE FESTIVAL

The Blossom Kite Festival offers a fun, active, and hands-on way to welcome spring and embrace the festival spirit. Held at the Washington Monument Grounds, attendees can enjoy viewing and taking part in kite-related activities, competitions, and workshops. This event is especially exciting for youth and families— though everyone is welcome! Location: Washington Monument Grounds Date: March 28, 2026

PETALPALOOZA

Get ready for a day of excitement and outdoor fun at Petalpalooza ®. Located along the banks of the Anacostia River, this event is as scenic as it is memorable. With live music, art and play stations, and a cashless beverage garden, Petalpalooza offers activities for people of all ages. To finish the day, there will be a spectacular fireworks display. NATIONAL CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL PARADE

Perhaps the biggest spectacle of all, and concluding The National Cherry Blossom Festival, the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade leaves a lasting impression of joy and pride each year. As one of D. C.’ s largest annual events, the acclaimed parade stretches across 10 entire blocks. Get tickets to enjoy exciting performances that feature everything from elaborate floats to marching bands, singing acts, and more.
