D.C.’s diplomatic community celebrates and showcases the cultural
and culinary traditions of more than 45 countries. This festival has
the atmosphere of a bustling global marketplace, with each embassy
promoting their country through vibrant displays of visual art, food,
handcrafts as well as travel and tourism exhibits. Free and open to the
public, guests have the opportunity to travel the world and do some
holiday shopping — all during the lunch hour.

LEESBURG HOLIDAY PARADE
Historic Leesburg looks every bit the picture postcard during the
holidays, with decorated windows and street lamps glowing in the crisp
evening air. Celebrate the holidays with a tree and menorah lighting
and performances from local groups. Stay the weekend for the annual
craft fair where 95+ artisans will feature everything from stained glass
and jewelry to candles and hand-carved wooden goods. A week later,
witness the annual Christmas and holiday parade after a day of “Jingle
Jam” concerts.

CHRISTMAS AT MOUNT VERNON
Christmas past meets Christmas present at George Washington’s estate.
Just as the first family celebrated the holiday, visitors can experience
history and tradition with cheer and charm. On select dates, learn more
about holiday celebrations in 18th-century Virginia on candlelight tours
that end with cookies and warm cider. Dec. 20–21 adds a sparkling
fireworks display above the Potomac River.

JANUARY
MLK HOLIDAY DC PARADE AND FESTIVAL
“Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable,” said Martin
Luther King Jr. “Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice,
suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern
of dedicated individuals.” Since 1977, thousands have been making
that symbolic step in the annual MLK Holiday DC Parade and Festival to
promote peace and non-violence locally and around the world.

WOLF TRAP’S ANNUAL HOLIDAY SING-A-LONG THE WASHINGTON AUTO SHOW
This musical celebration hosts a performance by the United States
Marine Band and a Sing-A-Long of Christmas carols and Hanukkah
songs with local choir and vocal groups from the metropolitan
Washington area. Wolf Trap will be participating in Toys for Tots by
collecting new, unwrapped toys at the entrance to the Filene Center The Washington Auto Show is the largest public show in Washington,
D.C. Along with the engineering prowess on display among the more
than 600 new models from over 35 manufacturers, the 2020 show
will feature VIP tours led by award-winning automotive writers and a
special exhibit area for live painting of “art” cars.
