winter Downtown Holiday Market NOVEMBER WORLD PRESS PHOTO EXHIBITION The World Press Photo Exhibition (WPP) represents the best visual journalism of the year, with the goal of telling the stories behind the photos and encouraging deeper understanding and debate of current events at home and abroad. This massive space houses 20 projectors casting images of WPP prize winning photographs, and a retrospective of 62 years of photos of the year. Nov. 8 – Dec. 8 • Dupont Underground CAPITAL CITY GO-GO Capital City Go-Go is an American professional basketball team in the NBA G League and an affiliate of the Washington Wizards of the NBA. The Go-Go’s home stadium is located in Congress Heights, and they will be returning for a second season. Nov. 9 • Entertainment and Sports Arena A CHRISTMAS CAROL Join the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future as they seek to redeem and transform the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, this time with music. Originally conceived by Michael Baron, the production captures the magic and joy of Dickens’ yuletide tale. Acclaimed actor Craig Wallace returns to play Scrooge in a production heralded as a “infectiously jolly” by the Washington Post. Nov. 21 – Jan. 1, 2020 • Ford’s Theatre ENCHANT LIGHT MAZE AND CHRISTMAS MARKET Enchant is the creator of the world’s largest Christmas light maze and market, and after past stops in St. Petersburg, Florida; and Seattle, Washington; it now comes to Washington, D.C., filling Nationals Park FLYWASHINGTON.COM 66 WINTER 2019/20 with a bustling artisan Christmas market, ice skating trail, seasonal food and beverage vendors, and Mr. and Mrs. Claus. And then there’s the maze itself, covering 90,000 square feet with paths and spaces that lead you around and through white Christmas trees, huge snowflakes, giant candy canes, and ultimately to nine giant golden reindeer. Nov. 22 − Dec. 29 • Nationals Park DOWNTOWN HOLIDAY MARKET One of the most spectacular outdoor shopping experiences in the region, the holiday market lays out a festive shopping “village” to the heart of downtown D.C., with more than 150 regional artisans, crafters, and boutiques of unique gift items, including jewelry, pottery, paintings, and textiles. Exhibitors rotate daily, so it’s worth coming more than once. While shopping, enjoy seasonal entertainment and festive treats. Located across from the Capital One Arena and convenient to Metro and nearby parking, the market is a creative and convenient way to fulfill all your holiday shopping wishes. Nov. 22 − Dec. 23 • 8th and F Streets, NW RESTON HOLIDAY PARADE Featuring Macy’s-style balloons, musicians, dancers, antique cars, characters, community groups, dignitaries, special guest emcees, horse-drawn carriage rides, a tree lighting, and much more, the one- hour, half-mile holiday parade — named one of the best in the country by USA Today — welcomes the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus in a horse-drawn carriage. All will reflect the theme for 2019 — “Candy Lane.” Before the parade begins, 10,000 commemorative jingle bells are distributed to children along the route. Nov. 29 • Reston Town Center
