COLD WEATHER COMFORT FOOD When the temperature drops, we seek comfort in the form of food. We’re referring to those dishes that make your mouth water as soon as you read the item on the menu. Perhaps you’re looking for an entrée that satisfies all your cravings to feast on during your layover, or a healthier alternative to your traditional hearty fare. Or maybe, a cozy cup of soup, that can warm you to your core before you board. Whatever your desire is, Reagan National Airport has you covered with plenty of winter-ready options to choose from. SMASH BURGER Smashtots: While comfort food means different things to different people, there are a few qualifiers we can all agree on: It’s usually warm. It’s usually hearty. It’s usually a dish you never, ever get tired of eating. Essentially, smashtots are the tater tot version of the Smashfries, which are mounded on your tray after being tossed in rosemary, garlic, and olive oil. The tots are cooked to a crisp finish, making it hard to just have a few bites. LEGAL SEAFOOD New England Clam Chowder: Both world-famous and wonderful. The creamy chowder is known for its for its comforting briny flavor. It seems every state on the East Coast has its own take on the popular soup — however, Legal Seafood takes the traditional route, packing the chowder with fresh clams, potatoes, onions, heavy cream, and salt pork for extra flavor.
