THE NEW ORLEANS JAZZ AND HERITAGE FESTIVAL
Every late April to early May, NOLA comes alive with Jazz Fest, a
celebration of all things musical. Held on the racetrack for the last 50
years, the fest brings every kind of music onto the 12 stages that make
up this legendary happening, where jazz giants, blues legends, and
rock greats trade licks with local up-and-comers in hip-hop, gospel,
soul, country, Dixieland and more. This is the festival that defines the
city’s musical soul and heritage. Pick one of the two weekends or stay
for the full 10 days and dive into the local music clubs (Tipitina’s, d.b.a.,
The Spotted Cat, Kermit’s Treme Mother-in-Law Lounge, the Maple
Leaf, the Howlin’ Wolf, etc.) on the off-fest days.
VOODOO MUSIC + ARTS EXPERIENCE
Halloween also brings the Voodoo Music + Arts Experience to
NOLA’s City Park; start by calling it Voodoo Fest and you’ll fit in
with the locals, who flock to this weekend-long shindig wearing
costumes of all sorts. For twenty years, bands and DJs have the
pumped up the volume and set the perfect soundtrack for the
numerous art instillations and dining experiences brought in by
local restaurants, so expect to find po’boys, gumbo, beignets and
charred oysters on Voodoo’s diverse menu.
