SMITHSONIAN NATIONAL AIR AND SPACE MUSEUM Free Museum Tours. Washingtonian Magazine has called a docent- led tour one of the best things to do in the Washington, D.C. area. The Museum’s docents (volunteer guides) bring and share a wealth of knowledge, sometimes first-hand experiences, about the Museum’s vast collection. The 90-minute tours are free and are offered daily at both the Museum in Washington, D.C. and the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, VA. Audio Tours. Don’t have time for a guided tour? Prefer to explore the collection on your own? Try the Museum’s new audio tours. Offered at both locations, the guides provide a general highlights tour, as well as a youth tour, to give you a deeper dive into the Museum’s collections. General tours are offered in English, French, Mandarin and Spanish. Youth tours are available in English and Spanish. Fees apply. Recurring activities. The Museum has something to offer at both locations every day of the week, including guided tours, independent audio tours, story times, scavenger hunts, IMAX films and flight simulators. Big Changes are in the Air. The Museum in Washington, D.C., is undergoing a large-scale renovation that will result in 23 updated and reimagined galleries.
