When it opened in 2018, it was only the second location in North America of Hilton’s new sub-brand aimed at younger travelers seeking accommodations with a more local feel. From the lobby, with its eye-catching two-story wall covered in multicolored live moss, to the minimalist reception area and sleek but comfortable restaurant and lounge, the hotel exudes a design-oriented vibe. The Canopy Central Café offers an all-day menu that showcases produce from area farms and local microbrews and wines. The hotel’s secluded roof terrace has a small ice rink in winter and open-air seating for the restaurant in the warm months, and guests have complimentary use of hotel bikes. A Red Door Salon & Spa by Elizabeth Arden shares an entrance with the hotel. Pike & Rose’s wealth of shopping, restaurants and nightlife venues are just steps away. Located amid the busy lineup of retailers and restaurants on Rockville Pike, EVEN Hotel Rockville is the area’s first wellness-focused hotel, and one of only about 10 properties so far of this InterContinenal sub-brand. EVEN provides in-room fitness equipment such as exercise balls, resistance bands, and yoga mats, and rooms have cork flooring and in-room training videos; there is also a more traditional gym — so there’s no excuse not to work out during your stay. Other amenities include “spa-inspired” showers, bedding made from eucalyptus fibers, and healthy food and beverage choices with options for gluten-free or other dietary considerations. The bright, clean ambiance is aimed at encouraging not just fitness but also mental relaxation. The hotel is conveniently located right across from the Twinbrook Metro station, providing easy access to downtown D.C. via public transportation. Canopy by Hilton Cambria Hotel has a location that can’t be beat: It’s in a mixed-use high-rise building just off the Rockville Town Center, surrounded by dining, nightlife and shops, just steps from a Regal Cinema and a short walk from the Rockville Metro station. This relatively new hotel brand is aimed at both business and leisure travelers with lodgings that are deftly integrated into the local urban fabric. Opened in 2015, the Cambria has welcoming public areas and spacious rooms with modern décor and ample work desks. There’s also an excellent fitness center and heated indoor pool, as well as an on-site restaurant and bar. SUMMER 2019 59 FLYWASHINGTON.COM
