AIRPORTS AUTHORITY POLICE DEPARTMENT THE METROPOLITAN WASHINGTON AIRPORTS AUTHORITY POLICE DEPARTMENT, one of the largest police departments in Northern Virginia, is responsible for protecting more than 44 million passengers and employees of Dulles International and Reagan National Airports and our roadways (the Dulles Toll Road and Access Road). Currently the Police Department has 233 sworn officers, 33 Traffic Control Officers, 13 civilian administrative employees, and five Safety Service Patrol personnel at the two airports. The Police Department enforces Airports Authority regulations and county codes in three separate jurisdictions, as well as the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. It works closely with federal law enforcement partners and has several officers assigned to federal task forces. Officers also have the opportunity to work with K9s, SWAT teams, and surrounding Police Departments, among many others. Our police force also works hard to give back to the community. Each year, the Dulles Day Plane Pull brings teams of fellow officers, engineers, consultants, and federal service workers to test their meddle against 82 tons of metal and enjoy the accompanying Car & Bike Show and food vendors — all to raise money for Special Olympics.
