WINGS FOR ALL
BUILDS CONFIDENCE IN AIR TRAVEL
Dulles held its fourth Wings for All airport experience on March 25. The event helps familiarize special needs children with the travel experience. Volunteers are placed throughout the journey from ticket counter to aircraft who guide families through the process of airport travel. For many participants, leaving home introduces stresses that can overwhelm their child’ s ability to cope and remain calm. Although the aircraft never left the ground, many families got one step closer to booking a real trip in the future.
Partnered with The Arc of Northern Virginia, United Airlines, and the Transportation Security Administration, families were given the chance to practice the travel process from start to finish, spanning all the way from the ticket counter to the jet bridge and inside a fully-prepped United Airlines aircraft.

STUDENTS
AT WORK
On any given day you will find some exceptional students working at Reagan National and Dulles International Airports. The program, which is geared towards students with disabilities, was developed through a partnership with Fairfax County Public Schools, The Earl L. Pulley Career Center, and The Secondary Transition to Employment Program( STEP), 16 years ago.
The students are employees and have designated jobs, ranging from stocking the magazine you are reading, to working in Maintenance and Engineering, or for various airport vendors. The students go through an interview process, background checks, and learn how to do everything from taking public transportation to their job to printing out their pay stubs. Upon graduation, many students find full time employment at Reagan National and Dulles International Airports. The program is a great way to help students with disabilities transition from school into a career.
