NAVY YARD: THE JOURNEY FROM NAVAL TO NEIGHBORHOOD
Along the northern shoreline of the Anacostia River, east of the Potomac, lies the 41-acre area known as Navy Yard. While the concrete shores primarily serve a practical purpose by housing the Naval Washington District’ s headquarters, they also support a lively, thriving community. This area features patches of greenery amid upscale housing, historic rowhomes, a large baseball stadium, schools, gyms, shops, and restaurants. Navy Yard continues to serve residents and visitors, maintaining its role for over two centuries.
