Upon the Gulf of Guinea lay a port city , often referred to as the “ pearl of West Africa .” Lomé , the capital and largest city in Togo , is home to some of Earth ’ s most alluring landscape views . With epic scenery of boundless white beaches and tranquil countryside , Lomé is known for its beauty , uniqueness and comfort .
This metropolis is conveniently home to an international airport — Lomé Tokoin . And even though this city is sizable , you can comfortably traverse by foot . Resting on the Gulf of Guinea , Lomé has undergone major developments in order to transcend into the important administrative , commercial , and transport center it is today . After being marked the colonial capital of German Togoland in 1897 , Lomé has grown to become the largest city and capital of Togo and is home to roughly 1.5 million people . Major revolutions throughout the 60s prompted the vast evolution of this port city , crafting its deepwater harbor that can supersede up to three million tons of goods annually .
