“ We also have an amazing professional development program here at the Authority where we take students who are newly graduated from a college and bring them into entry-level positions and train them for four years and then place them in permanent positions . During those four-year programs , many of them pursue master ’ s degrees through our tuition assistance program ,” Lewis adds , touting the success that the Airport Authority has had in terms of driving diversity for and increasing interest in the aviation industry .
“ We ’ ve seen our interns move on from professional development associates to management in airport operations , engineering , and HR . They ’ ve been very successful . We also have a skilled trades apprentice program that we operate where students can secure a career position in the skilled trades . Last year one of our apprentices won Apprentice of the Year for their participation in our apprenticeship program . Our apprentices complete the program with a journey license and some with an associates degree .”
With a demonstrated record of diversity and social impact leadership and an abundance of enthusiasm for the role she has taken on , Tanisha Lewis is managing change in the corridors of MWAA while blazing a path for a more diverse and representative future in the world of aviation .

Start the day with a visit to the Historic Eastern Market and where you can enjoy breakfast at local favorite Market Lunch ( 224 7th Street SE ). Visitors can enjoy a hearty , comfort breakfast of buckwheat pancakes and local blue crab cakes .
After breakfast , head over to the National Portrait Gallery and the Air and Space Museum . Located at 8th Street NW and G Street NW , the National Portrait Gallery ’ s collection includes images of Americans who have contributed to our national culture including artists , politicians , scientists , inventors , and activists . From stirring images of interpersonal relationships in American families to presidential portraits , the National Portrait Gallery reflects our glorious multifaceted nation .
The Smithsonian ’ s National Air and Space Museum has two locations . The Steven F . Udvar-Hazy Center is in Chantilly , VA ( near Dulles ). The Washington , D . C . location is found at Sixth Street and Independence Avenue SW and has recently reopened with eight new and renovated galleries in the west wing . The new exhibits employ creative and dynamic techniques to encourage visitor engagement . Highlights include an immersive , interactive tour of the solar system and a mockup of the cupola from the International Space Station ( ISS ). Also , displayed for the first time is the full-sized X-Wing Starfighter — the prop used in Star Wars : The Rise of Skywalker .

After a day of museum hopping , you ’ ll want to sit down and take in a performance at the Arena State at the Mead Center for American Theater . Founded in 1950 , the venue hosts a diverse array of American productions .
Finally , close out the day with a scenic dinner at the foot of the U . S . Capitol at Charlie Palmer Steakhouse located at 101 Constitution Avenue NW . With over 500 selections of primarily American wine and American artisanal beef cuts including a dry-aged porterhouse , coupled with locally sourced seafood , this is the spot for a D . C . power meal .
