NAVY YARD HOTELS
BY MEGAN LEADER
D.C.’s up-and-coming Navy Yard neighborhood is vibrant, accessible,
and fun. Its location, just two Metro stops from the National Mall,
makes it an exceptional home base for visitors to the nation’s capital
and a relaxed waterside respite from the crowds of D.C. — with the
exception of Washington Nationals and D.C. United game days, when
the neighborhood buzzes with excitement.
The Navy Yard’s impressive and growing collection of exceptional
restaurants, bars, and shops means everything you need is located within
just a few blocks of its hotels, and the spacious, expansive riverfront park
ties it all together in a green bow.

With Navy Yard’s revitalization has come
the arrival of several big-brand hotels, too.
Adjacent to Nationals Park and a block from
the Navy Yard Metro station, Hampton Inn &
Suites is well-appointed, with inviting rooms
featuring leather armchairs, workstations,
and contemporary light fixtures. Many
rooms have views of Nationals Park, but the
best vantage point is the rooftop bar, open
daily April through October.
Whether traveling solo or with family or pets in tow, Navy Yard’s hotels offer
quality accommodations at a variety of price points.

Thompson Washington, D.C.
A chic, highly anticipated newcomer to the
neighborhood, the Thompson Washington,
D.C. opened its doors in January 2020. Its
modern design is minimalist and elemental;
rooms are airy, with wood floors,
contemporary furnishings, and natural
light pouring in from large windows. Subtle
accents in these spaces, such as curved
tables emulating a ship’s cabin, evoke the
Navy Yard’s industrial and nautical history.
In early 2020, the Thompson Washington
D.C. will open its in-house restaurant,
Maialino Mare, a Roman-style trattoria
serving seafood pastas and whole-roasted
fish, sourcing its ingredients from local
farmers and fishers.

bar, Anchovy Social, is also set to open early
in the year and sure to draw a crowd with its
sliding floor-to-ceiling windows proffering
360-degree views of the city and waterfront.
Spanning 6,000 square feet of space, the
bar bills itself as a go-to for “year-round
waterfront vibes, after-work spritzes and
the occasional seafood tower.”
