Hargrove As the frigid winter weather gives way to the warmth of spring, the National Capital Region opens its arms and welcomes residents and visitors alike to take advantage of the its vibrant array of neighborhoods, restaurants, cultural festivities and historical landmarks. At the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (Airports Authority), we’re excited to celebrate the abundance of opportunities for the season—at home and abroad. In this issue of #FlyWashington, we showcase a variety of destinations ideal for warm-weather spring break getaways, from the sunny shores and colorful architecture in Puerto Rico, to the luxury and glamour of Dubai. Read all about exploring the Mosaic Neighborhood in Fairfax, as well as day trips in Virginia and Maryland highlighted in this issue. In our feature cover story, Virginia native Hilarie Burton shares her experience growing up in rural Loudoun County, Virginia. Now a successful actress and producer, she hasn’t forgotten her roots. For instance: when her high school alma mater had trouble standing up a football team, she jumped into action to make it happen. If time allows, be sure to take a scenic tour of the beautiful Loudoun County countryside and see why Hilarie loved growing up here. And while our region is accustomed to welcoming an influx of visitors in spring to witness the splendor of cherry blossoms, we are also excited to welcome the return of baseball. Both Reagan National and Dulles International airports offer flights to destinations in the Cactus League and Grapefruit League. Fans of the Washington Nationals, Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees and other teams will find tips for their spring training getaways to West Palm Beach and Tampa highlighted in this issue. We hope you enjoy this issue of #FlyWashington magazine and your journey through our airports. On behalf of all Airports Authority employees and partners, thank you for making Reagan National and Dulles International your gateway to the National Capital Region.
