DINNER – End your Roman weekend with pizza: get it with a Roman-
style thin crust and charred around the edges at Da Baffetto on Via
del Governo Vecchio. The service here is casual, verging on brusque,
adding character to the dyed-in-the-wool pizzas that are a no-frills
testament to the best of Roman eats. Their signature house pizza is
more laden with toppings, but we always recommend keeping it simple
and Roman-style with a basic cherry tomato or eggplant version,
though the sausage, mushroom and onion pizza is also a winner.

itinerary that’ll immerse you in the Rome of the Romans and help find
your inner Hepburn and Peck.
where to stay:
A former girls’ boarding school, the Hotel Vilòn opened last year with
18 fabulously remodeled rooms, some of which overlook the gardens
of the Palazzo Borghese. The work of architect Giampiero Panepinto,
the hotel impresses with motifs and emblems from Rococo to the
modern, including a series of works by photographer Massimo Listri
that are reproductions of classical masterpieces. A classy, hip place to
stay, the Vilòn also has great dining, with an all-day bar that opens out
onto a courtyard — perfect for a late afternoon Campari.

On a sunny Roman day, the best way to see the city is from behind
the handlebars of a motorino. If you have the mettle to go head
to head with the city’s famously sanguine drivers, we recommend
going full Roman Holiday and renting a Vespa for the day or for
the duration of your stay. All you need are a driver’s license and a
credit card, and some companies, like My Vespa (myvespa.it), will
even deliver your steed to your hotel.
GETTING THERE:
Beginning May 2, 2019, Alitalia will fly nonstop
from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)
to Rome Fiumicino International Airport (FCO).
Flights are currently scheduled for five weekly
flights. United Airlines also offers seasonal service
(Summer) from IAD to FCO that re-starts on March
30th and operates until October 25th.
