And at the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, 2018 holds special promise. At Ronald Reagan National Airport, the New Year brings changes as Project Journey construction shifts traffic patterns, arrivals pick-up locations and in-terminal passenger flow. Domestic and international passenger growth, along with cost control efforts, have made the Airport more attractive for airlines–resulting in more choice for travelers. And as the region’s gat eway to the world, Dulles International continues to add new airlines and routes to destinations worldwide, including Cathay Pacific’s recently announced service to Hong Kong onboard its first Airbus A350-1000. Another exciting initiative taking flight is the Airport Innovation Challenge, a startup competition launched with the high-tech business startup firm 1776 to develop technologies and services that enhance the passenger experience. Through such efforts, the Airports Authority is working to anticipate the demands of a new generation of airport travelers as air travel becomes a vital part of modern life.
