Welcome to America ' s National Capital Region !
As autumn ’ s crisp weather and vibrant colors brighten the National Capital Region , our airports are bustling with passengers heading to football games , family visits , business meetings , vacations and back to school .
To ensure a convenient and pleasant travel experience during this busy time , Reagan National and Dulles International airports are adding airlines , destinations and amenities such as new restrooms , lounges , restaurants , workspaces and seating areas while we build new concourses and other facilities to accommodate record-setting growth .
So far this year , Dulles International – the Washington region ’ s Gateway to the World – has added six airlines ( Swiss , Aeromexico , Avelo , Sun Country , Frontier and Breeze ), bringing its total number of carriers to 45 . These new arrivals , along with expanded service by other airlines , have added about 20 destinations , bringing the total number of cities served by nonstop from Dulles to about 145 – including 38 routes between Washington and other global capitals .
This issue of FlyWashington magazine spotlights Madrid , the Spanish capital , with its rich history , culture and world-class dining . We also feature :
• Virginia ’ s Shenandoah National Park , especially lovely in the fall ;
• Mobile , Alabama , known for seafood and Mardi Gras celebrations ;
• New Haven , Connecticut , and its unique style of pizza ;
• Michigan , with the wineries and cherry orchards of Traverse City , the parks and museums in Grand Rapids and the history and art of Lansing ;
• Greensboro , North Carolina , with its lively performing arts scene ; and
• Palm Springs , California , encircled by the majestic San Jacinto Mountains and colorful deserts .
This issue also spotlights the Washington-area neighborhood of Bethesda , Maryland , with its affluent new urbanism , performing arts venues and award-winning eateries .
All these great places can be reached easily and conveniently from our airports . Wherever you ’ re traveling , we wish you a safe and enjoyable autumn . Thank you for making Reagan National and Dulles International airports part of your journey . Have a great trip !
