DULLES DAY FESTIVAL AND PLANE PULL RECAP

The Airports Authority hosted another successful Dulles Day Festival and Plane Pull on September 14 , with nearly 10,000 people attending the annual event . The event combines a festival and the annual Plane Pull to raise funds for Special Olympics Virginia . During the Plane Pull , teams compete to pull a large airplane over a set distance , all while supporting athletes with intellectual disabilities . The event also features food vendors , live music , a car show , and games for families and children . This year ’ s event raised $ 580,000 , bringing the total raised over the Plane Pull ’ s 32 years to more than $ 6 million .
Eighty teams raised money and participated in the Plane Pull , with the Chesapeake Sheriff ’ s Department maintaining their dominance with a winning time of 5.92 seconds . This is the 15th year in a row they have won the contest .
