The Beltway is a term used to describe Interstate 495 — the 64-mile highway encircling metropolitan Washington , D . C . and the inner suburbs in adjacent Maryland and Virginia . Though the Maryland and Northern Virginia suburbs are often included in discussions about life “ Inside the Beltway ,” the truth is the thundering , never-ending drumbeat of politics combined with the nonstop social whirl of our nation ’ s capital define the character of the region .
One Loudoun emphatically refutes that notion .
