Dulles Day Plane Pull & 5K / 10K on the Runway

After a two year in-person hiatus , the 30th Annual Dulles Day Festival and Plane Pull took place Saturday , September 17 , 2022 . It was human versus machine , and a whole lot more . The Dulles Day Plane Pull raises money for Special Olympics Virginia and the inspiring athletes who compete . Teams of 25 attempt to pull an 82-ton FedEx Airbus A320 or United Boeing 757 airplane 12 feet in record time and agree to raise at least $ 2,500 for Special Olympics Virginia . Started by Deputy Chief Joe Hurtuk ( of the MWAA Police Department ) as a fundraiser for The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Virginia in 1992 , it ’ s grown into a full day of competition , food , and games with approximately 15,000 people in attendance each year . Since its inception , over $ 5 million dollars has been raised for the over 23,000 Special Olympics Virginia athletes with intellectual disabilities .
The 10th Annual Dulles Airport 5k / 10k on the Runway will take place on Saturday , October 1 , 2022 , with the starting line at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum ’ s Steven F . Udvar-Hazy Center . Don ’ t miss your opportunity for the flattest , fastest course in the area on an actual runway at Dulles International Airport where you get a unique look at the airport grounds , run past planes and along the actual landing strip on this certified looped course . Registration is open to the first 2,500 runners and the top male and top female runners for both races will receive a certificate from United Airlines for a round-trip ticket anywhere that United flies in the continental United States , Alaska , Caribbean , Canada , Mexico and Central America , plus a weekend overnight stay for two at the Washington Dulles Airport Marriott . Awards will also be given to the top male and female finishers for each race in varying age groups . Proceeds support the Committee for Dulles Community Outreach Scholarship Program , Special Olympics Virginia , and the Washington Airports Task Force .
