Welcome to America’ s National Capital Region.
This summer, our region takes on an especially meaningful role as we commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Visitors from across the country and around the world are arriving to take part in this historic moment, and we are honored to welcome you through Reagan National and Dulles International airports.
While the Fourth of July undoubtedly will be a highlight, this celebration extends far beyond a single day. Throughout Washington, D. C., Virginia and Maryland, museums, historic sites, performances and community gatherings are offering new opportunities to explore the people, places and ideas that have shaped our nation over the past two and a half centuries. From the National Mall to neighborhood streets, the spirit of this anniversary can be found throughout the region.
In this special edition of Fly Washington, we invite you to experience America 250 from several perspectives. You ' ll discover the exhibitions, festivals and commemorations taking place throughout the capital region, retrace the steps of the American Revolution in Boston, and explore how the American West helped define the country ' s next chapters of growth and possibility. For travelers looking ahead to their next getaway, we also feature Puerto Rico and St. Thomas, two remarkable destinations where you can enjoy Caribbean beaches, distinctive local cultures, and unforgettable experiences, all without needing a passport.
This issue also reflects on another story of American ingenuity: the history of flight. From the Wright brothers ' first powered flight to the development of Reagan National and Dulles International as gateways to the nation ' s capital, aviation has transformed how we connect with one another and experience the world. As we celebrate America ' s 250th anniversary, Dulles International is illuminated in red, white and blue, and Reagan National marks 85 years of welcoming travelers to Washington. These milestones remind us that progress is built not only through bold ideas, but through the people who bring them to life.
Whether you are visiting for the first time, returning to favorite places, or simply passing through on your next adventure, thank you for choosing Reagan and Dulles airports. We hope your time in the National Capital Region inspires reflection, discovery and connection.
We wish you safe and enjoyable travels this season.
