S alisbury-Ocean City, Maryland: Wicomico Regional (IATA: SBY, ICAO: KSBY, FAA LID: SBY), or, more succinctly Wicomico Regional Airport, is located in unincorporated Wicomico County, Maryland, 5 miles (8.0 km) southeast from downtown Salisbury, Maryland, United States. Salisbury is the largest city of Maryland’s Eastern Shore with a population of 125,200 in the metro area. As the only commercial airport on the Delmarva Peninsula, Salisbury also serves Delaware, the Eastern Shore of Virginia, and the Eastern Shore of Maryland, which include the other large cities of Ocean City, Cambridge, and Easton. Officially opened on November 11, 1943, Salisbury was originally used as a naval training base during World War II up until 1945. After the war ended, the Wicomico County government acquired the land used for the naval base and turned it into a commercial airport. Bayland aviation is the fixedbase operator at Salisbury and provides full services. GA parking is adjacent to taxiway C on the west side of the field. 2012 Piedmont established a passenger record of 150,086 passengers Ocean City Maryland is widely known in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States and is a frequent destination for vacationers in that area. Ocean City has a long history of fishing, both commercial and recreational. The town bills itself as the “White Marlin Capital of the World.” During the summer numerous charter and private boats fish for billfish, tuna, wahoo, and other game fish. In early August, one of the largest fishing tournaments in the world, the White Marlin Open, is held. Prize money for the largest White Marlin, Blue Marlin, and Tuna can range over 1 million dollars. The area also boasts having many championship golf courses, amusement parks and beaches. The airport is the operational headquarters for American Eagle carrier Piedmont Airlines. Piedmont exclusively uses the Bombardier Dash 8-100/300 Series twin-engine turbo-prop airliner, with maximum seating of up to 50 passengers.
