Snyder, Kirtland

Kirtland Snyder has published three chapbooks of poetry—Winter Light (with an Introduction by poet Cid Corman), Soldiers of Fortune (a collaboration with the American painter, Leon Golub), and Big, Broken-Hearted Arias—all from Innerer Klang Press (Boston/Asheville). He has also written two novels: The Wolf Moon (for Young Adults) and The Man Who Had Two Hearts. In 2007, New Works Review awarded him the Stanley Kunitz Award for Excellence in Poetry and nominated him for a Pushcart Prize in Poetry. His Holocaust poetry is among the work of American and British poets examined in Professor Susan Gubar’s book, Poetry After Auschwitz (Indiana University Press, 2003). Snyder has also published poetry, fiction, and nonfiction in many literary magazines, anthologies, newspapers, and has been a Contributor in poetry at the Breadloaf Writers’ Conference. The photo itself was a sort of accident. I always wanted to take a photo of some bird, but the opportunity never presented itself until my vacation to Las Vegas with my family. I saw the bird, and I took a total of 3 photos of the crow before the crow flew away. The final product ended up being one of my personal favorite photographs I have ever taken, and it just reminds me that perseverance can push through. I wanted to take a photo of a bird, and I only took 3, but this still gave me a moment to be proud of what I had created.
