the heart of the sea

by Kristina Heflin

sent from: Barstow, 4/2, 1:58am

dear ocean,

i have an unusual

request

stuck here in the

desert alone

i must know where

to go to find

love, so that i

don’t become

just another bleached

skull beside a cactus

(somehow the body

is always missing)

signed,

lonely and looking

sent from: Marianas Trench, 4/3, 12:03am

dear lonely and looking,

find the calm

of a wellspring

it will reflect

the sparkle of the

stars and your eyes

you’ll spend your life

plumbing its depths

and always come up

with the most

refreshing taste

sincerely,

the ocean
