My Pet is a rescue
pup!
!
Here’s an account from Gene, 7, telling us all about his first memories
of his lovely rescue puppy, Mabel, and why he loves her.
‘Mabel is an English bull
dog and was 16 weeks
old when we got her
from Dogs Trust. When
Mabel first came home
she accidently ate
Lego and a fridge
magnet, so we had to take
her to the vet. She now likes to eat teddies!
We have another dog called Arthur and
Mabel is very bossy with him. She’s
different to Arthur because he’s a lot more
relaxed.
We didn’t really know how Mabel had
ended up at the charity until we were
given her. We found out after that she was
illegally smuggled in to the country from a
puppy farm in Eastern Europe.
cue dog I would say it’s a nice thing to do, but
you have to give it a lot of thought and ask
yourself can you look after one?’

tre Manager at Dogs Trust Basildon, said:
“Being able to share your life with man’s
best friend is so rewarding, but rehoming
a rescue dog is one of the most amazing
things you can do. All
rescue dogs
are looking for is a new
family to grow old with
and a second chance at
happiness.”

Dogs trust say: If a dog
is in a playful mood they
will often jump up at you
or bring their toys to you.
You can normally recog-
nise a playful and cheer-
ful pup by their relaxed
body posture. If a dog’s
posture is looking uptight
and anxious it’s probably
best to be cautious.
‘My best friends
dog is usually hiding
behind her, and whin-
ing. What does that
mean?’
Have you ever wondered what your
or any other dog is trying to tell you
when they put their paw on your lap?
it’s important to know how to behave
around your canine.
When a dog is whining,
hiding behind its owner,
has flattened ears or has
a lowered tail, it is prob-
ably frightened. If your
own dog is scared it is
important to tell them to
calm down in a soft voice
and take them away from
what could be scaring
them.
