The report recognized the contribution of Kenya’s cut-flower industry to the country’s economy through foreign exchange earnings and employment creation. The sector has also attracted other investors dealing in other inputs such greenhouses, machinery, irrigation systems, and in cold storage facilities. Approximately 65 per cent of Kenya’s flower exports are sold through Dutch auctions to the United Kingdom, Japan, USA, Russia, France and Germany. The cut-flower Industry associations in the country have played an important role towards self-regulation and the introduction of codes of practice which are benchmarked to international best practices.
