18 GROWER IN FOCUS The Magical Touch To be ahead of the pack in the flower industry, growers constantly aim at improving quality and yield. Mr. Chakravarthi Kuppusamy the General Manager of Panda Flowers, in Naivasha, expalains his experiences with Hicure®. Tell us about your farm and the varieties that you grow. I work for Panda Flowers which is situated within The Flower Business Park, a few kilometers from the heart of Naivasha town. Our predominant crop is the rose flower; we also propagate flowers for internal use and farms within our premises. We supply more than 17 commercial rose varieties in a 40 hectare size farm. Our focus being Intermediate and T-hybrid varieties destined for our worldwide customers. How did you get to know about Hicure® and what motivated you to use it? I received a trial sample from the Syngenta marketing team. We went ahead to test the performance of the product in our farm. We noticed significant changes in crop growth within the first trial. We were encouraged by the result and therefore decided to spread use of Hicure® to the rest of the crops. My spray team members got so excited and demanded more and more of this product. 20 How long have been using Hicure® Close to a year now. What are your experiences and observations after using Hicure® in your crop programs. Kenya’s weather is highly erratic in nature, managing crops and retaining consistent production and quality is a very big challenge for any Agronomist, the biggest hurdle being retaining the present competitive market. Crops are exposed to different kinds of stress throughout their growing season. We therefore use biostimulant products on the crops for them to adapt to these kinds of stress.
