There ’ s no doubt that cycling is growing at a tremendous pace on Florida ’ s Historic Coast . For example , most of the 42-mile length of scenic A1A , the official Scenic and Historic Coastal Byway ( designated an All American Road destination ) now features a bike lane for experienced bikers . For traffic-free biking , the area ’ s great beaches are popular routes for visitors and locals alike . But whatever your skill level , there ’ s a place here for you and your bike .
There ’ s history on every street corner in St . Augustine and a great way to experience it is by biking . Head out on your own or stop at one of the local bike shops to pick up a map of key sites – the shop may even have a group tour available .
No bike ? No problem . Several local shops offer rentals and , as you ’ re sure to notice , St . Augustine ’ s e-bike sharing program is also available to the public .
Bike from downtown across the Bridge of Lions to Anastasia State Park where you ’ ll find a trail along the seashore as well as through the maritime hammock . Further south on A1A , the 5.5-mile Mala Compra Greenway Trail at Bing ’ s Landing tests mountain bikers .
