The two biggest challenges facing portrait photographers are how to guide the
subject into a pleasing and effective pose and communicating and directing them to
achieve real expressions. This class breaks these areas down into essential and usable
techniques. The use of hands, head tilts, props, and hats as well as hiding physical
defects is demonstrated. We will demonstrate many classic and effective poses for
men and women, individual and couples, kids and families.
The photographer/subject relationship is delicate, so the art of listening and
asking questions is a major factor in gaining the trust of your client. Through the
use of scripting and practice sessions between the participants, we will discover the
best ways to relax and relate to your clients. We discuss how to overcome both the
photographers’ concerns and the client’s fears or nervousness, the discovery process,
building the teamwork and speaking respectfully to the client in order to guide the
photographic session. Suggested Gear List: Medium telephoto lens (85mm or longer for
full frame, 60mm or longer for crop frame) Price: $100 | Max. No. People: 12 | Difficulty Level: Intermediate*
*Students must know how to use their flash - must take class above first.
This dynamic workshop is a step by step guide in how to use speedlights, or portable
flash, to make an effective portrait, both in the studio and on location. Using flash
is tricky, but the settings and exposure techniques are fully explained and demon-
strated. The students learn how to make beautiful fill flash, how to use one light
on camera for easy and simple portraits and how to use one off camera with radio
remotes for more control with the direction of light. The participants will have hands-
on experience working with the lights and various modifiers. Bobbi provides the
photographer with essential lighting techniques and hands on supervised shooting
time with models to help each individual. Participants should have good camera skills
and at least one flash that can be used TTL. Suggested Gear List: Medium telephoto
lens (85mm or longer for full frame, 60mm or longer for crop frame), portable flash, any
light modifiers, and bring your manual!

Portraits Unplugged for Cosplay* | Field Workshop
Meeting Location: Celebration Hall at St. Anastasia, 5205 A1A South
SUNDAY 4:30 TO 7:30 P.M.
SATURDAY 3 TO 4:30 P.M.
Price: $100 | Max. No. People: 12 | Difficulty Level: Beginner to Intermediate*
*Recommended that participants take the Wednesday 1PM “Portraits
Unplugged” Photo Seminar as a prerequisite.
Portraits Unplugged is all about natural light with nothing technical or mechanical.
Everyone has natural light available, but not necessarily the understanding of how to
find, “see” and manipulate it with reflectors and diffusers. We want to create the most
pleasing or effective image of our subjects. In this shooting workshop, we explore
various qualities of light, how to work with reflectors and diffusers and how to place
your subject in the light for the desired effect. The special benefit of this workshop is
using a pop-up canopy to make our own “porch” lighting, and then using multiple
reflectors to create studio lighting! This shooting workshop will feature all Cosplay
characters, so there is a lot of fun and enthusiasm!
