From the President Since the beginning of America’s land-grant universities to the evolution of today’s higher education system, universities have always served as an economic catalyst. For nearly 60 years, the University of South Florida has fulfilled that role and we are proud to see great forward momentum in the growth of the Corridor region and beyond. Colleges and Schools (USF Tampa Only) Arts & Sciences Behavioral & Community Sciences In addition to producing talented graduates who enhance the regional and global workforce, the USF System and its research collaborations are generating the ideas that strengthen the knowledge economy—as evidenced by our Top 43 ranking among all universities both public and private, and through our standing as a global leader among universities in producing new U.S. patents. Innovation is part of the culture of the USF System. Our Tampa campus is home to the National Academy of Inventors, which in just a few short years has grown from an effort by Dr. Paul Sanberg, USF’s senior vice president for research & innovation, to recognize academic inventors to become a prestigious global organization. In 2014, the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame, another program hosted by USF, inducted its inaugural class of six honorees. I am proud that USF Professor Shyam Mohapatra is among this group of iconic Floridians. Thanks to investment from the state, USF is now home to the Florida Center for Cybersecurity, an interdisciplinary institute that will collaborate with institutions across Florida to make our state the national leader in cybersecurity. The shared resources of the center will help Florida build the skilled and knowledgeable cybersecurity workforce needed to keep our sensitive personal and business data safe. Our faculty members are a driving force behind USF’s success, providing expertise for research and teaching in critical areas, and making a positive difference in the lives and futures of our students. The USF System’s mission in education and research has never been clearer. We are proud of the role we play in advancing the economy and excited about the future ahead. As a solution for a metropolitan region of multiple major cities, the USF System is comprised of three institutions: USF, USF St. Petersburg and USF Sarasota-Manatee. The institutions are separately accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. All institutions have distinct missions and their own detailed strategic plans. USF includes the main Tampa campus, its College of Marine Science in St. Petersburg and USF Health. The USF System offers over 240 degree programs at the undergraduate, graduate, specialist and doctoral levels, including the doctor of medicine. Awarded $413.6 million in research contracts and grants in FY 2013, the USF System has an annual budget of $1.5 billion, an annual economic impact of $4.4 billion, and serves more than 48,000 students.
