I was in my mid 30’s and fed up with being out of shape. I wasn’t obese, but out of shape for me because I was always athletic and active; but frequent drinking and eating garbage food led me to a place where I wasn’t happy.
I entered a local body transformation challenge & ended up winning it. I was just stoked to see my abs for the first time in my life….I thought lucky people with exceptional genetics were the only ones who had abs.
From that experience, I discovered the sport of figure. I thought it would be a great way to stay in shape & keep myself accountable.
Back in 2009 I entered the Orlando Europa where I won 1st in Masters & 4th in Open at the age of 36. I will always be grateful to Jennifer Hoffman, a National level figure competitor, who helped me prepare for my first show.
I train at the gym we own with partners, Dave & Alysia. Its called RetroFlex Fitness located in Zephyrhills, FL. I prefer doing cardio outside, like at the local high school stadiums or jog up to the hospital around the corner of my house & sprint some of the hills on the hospital grounds.
I started out as the “one hit wonder” in 2009, doing one show a year and continued doing that in 2010 & 2011. From then, Jim, my husband, saw my passion for training & decided to take control of the situation. He has experience along with a gift for training & motivating exceptional athletes; for he’d trained a few of
the best barefoot water-skiers in the world. I was thrilled he wanted to invest more of his time into my contest prep. He mapped out how we were going to qualify for Nationals and from there planned to make our first attempt at a pro card in 2013 at the Masters Nationals (Cont. pg 22).
