How do your goals on stage connect with your non-athletic activities?
For me, bringing my best to the stage gives me great sense pride. I enjoy the whole journey and I find it so rewarding. After going through multiple hip surgeries, ending up with two hip replacements, it gives me great pride to show how far I've come without ever thinking of giving up. I've proven to myself that anything is possible.
How many times a day do you eat and what’s your typical caloric, carb and protein intake per day? How many times a week do you work out and for how long? What’s your favorite body part to train?
I train 5 days a week, approximately 1 1/2 hours, my absolute favorite body part to train are shoulders. I do cardio everyday during contest prep. Cardio time varies depending on my conditioning, I would say anywhere between 30 to 45 minutes. Gone are the days of two hours of cardio a day, thank goodness lol.
During off season there is obviously less cardio. I eat 5-6 meals a day. Calories vary, we started incorporating carb rotation cycles which works great for me. During off season i restrict myself to only one cheat meal a week and I still weigh and measure everything I eat.
I always plan to eat every three hours, I bring my food with me everywhere I go.
-What’s the most comical or unusual comment someone has made to you? How did you deal with it?
As for comical or unusual comments, oh lord there are a few lol. The ones I find most comical is when I pull up to a red light and the person in the vehicle next to me asks me to flex my bicep. This has happened quite a few times and I'll gladly give them a flex haha. Cheap thrill I guess lol. I also find people say the funniest things, simply because they don't know what to say sometimes. One lady asked me if I was a body fitter, ok well that was a different way of putting it lol (cont. pg 32).
