Tony Candales, IFBB Pro Physique

Tony, please share a bit of your background and how you see it relating to your current success in fitness and modeling.

I have been an athlete my entire life, playing multiple sports growing up like baseball, football, volleyball, and tennis. I love to compete, and have always wanted to become a professional athlete. I have been weight training for over 20 years as I began when I was 16 in an effort to improve my performance in sports. I really didn’t know much about what I was doing, but I worked hard and my excellent genetics allowed me to make some very impressive progress. In just the past 5 years or so I really began educating myself on proper training techniques and diet/nutrition. It wasn’t until very recently that I realized I had potential in bodybuilding and once that seed was planted, I put everything into achieving that goal

of becoming a professional athlete.

Of all the clothing and modeling/acting opportunities you could land what would be your favorite role and what would you wear? I would love to land the cover of a major fitness magazine and/or be the subject in supplement ads within the magazines. A shirtless pictorial would most likely be the best showcase for my physique.

Please share with us a bit about your contest history and most memorable show experience.

I started competing just last year in 2014, and earned my Pro Card by winning my class at the 2014 North American Championships in Pittsburgh. The North Americans was only my 4th show, as I had done 3 shows prior starting at the local level and then moving into a more regional level show, and finishing with the Florida State Championships. I actually placed 2nd in 2 of those first 3 shows and only placed 1st in 1. I was told I was too big for the competition on those stages and that I would do well/better at the National level. Turns out they were right! My most memorable experience would have to be the feeling when I came off the stage after pre-judging at the North Americans where I was left in the dead center of the stage. I knew at that point I would be turning pro that night and I was literally emotional (cont. pg. 6).
