Please share something of your background and how it relates to your current interest in fitness and modeling.
I wasn't always an athletic individual. I went through the awkward preteen, chubby phase. I was picked on at school for my appearance. I decided during the summer before my freshman year in high school that I would lose the weight. Unfortunately, I didn't go about it in a healthy manner. Young and naïve, I drastically cut calories and found myself battling anorexia. It took almost ten years to figure out how to properly nourish my body. I didn't begin working out until 2009, almost two years after having my second baby. I began working out at home using P90X and Insanity, squeezing the DVD's in after working my 12+ hour shift at the hospital working as a RN. I continued to train like that until February 2014 (and after giving birth to two more children and being a stay at home mom) when my husband convinced me that I needed to set aside time for myself outside of the house. So after some searching online, I discovered bikini fitness competitions. The mere thought of it terrified me and I knew it was something I had to try. I've learned so much about the importance of a proper diet. I quickly fell in love with working out with a trainer, eating clean and having a goal to pursue...to be a bikini fitness competitor.
Share with us a bit about your contest history and most memorable show experience.
My contest history is pretty short since my first show was in April 2014. I competed in the Gateway Classic held in Lake City and placed 4th. Not bad for a first-timer but I wanted more. My second show was just this past weekend at the Mid Florida Classic in Orlando where I placed 1st in Bikini Over 30 and 2nd in Bikini Open B Class. It felt amazing to be back on that stage. It's hard to explain the feeling. All I know is I love this sport. I love the challenge, I love watching my body change and I love the people I am meeting along the way.
What motivates and/or inspires you to workout, diet and compete in fitness?
What motivates me to train and diet is the way I feel living a healthy lifestyle and how I've motivated friends, family and strangers. I want to reach out to mothers and help them to understand that just because we had children, doesn't mean we can't still rock a bikini!! (cont. pg. 6).
