June 12, 2014 issue shot with Danelle, her husband and mother-in-law in Charleston, South Carolina after she competed in physique at the NPC Jr USAs. Cover shot of fireman giving her the thumbs up in passing was one of the highlights of the numerous shoots we completed that weekend. The appreciation for fitness transcends the stage.

Please share something of your background and how it relates to your current interest in fitness and modeling.

I have always been involved in sports since a young age; but as you grow older you tend to get

wrapped up in life, career, marriage, etc. In 2003, I started at a local gym just wanting to tone up and lose some weight just like everyone else. I wasn’t getting the results I wanted so I decided to start teaching the classes I was taking. This was a fun experience and met some really good friends; however again I had a goal in my head of how I thought I wanted to look; like the girls in the fitness magazines. I would constantly complain to my husband about this and finally he told me I needed to get in the weight room and lift some heavy weights if I wanted to look like them. At that point I made the decision to switch to weight lifting with him and his training partner. At first I remember thinking what did I get myself into but then I started to see the changes physically by having someone push me beyond my comfort zone and give me the confidence that I could do it if I really wanted it. Of course the competitive side of me was unleashed again and from then on I was ready for whatever they threw my way. My husband was training to do his first bodybuilding show and he kept telling me that I needed to do this also; I remember thinking are you crazy? After going through the journey of physical and mental exhaustion and stepping on that stage in 2009; I knew I was hooked and wanted to do this again. Most people don’t get why I put myself through the struggles of pushing myself beyond my limits and my answer is you will never understand until you do it yourself. The journey of show competition also helps in my everyday life where it keeps me accountable, organized, and focused on an end goal. Being a cancer survivor, being physically fit, staying positive, and eating healthy also shows people that you can recover and live a long happy life (cont. pg. 6.).
