If you are like me you really enjoy fishing but it is simple a hobby that most everything else in life gets in front fishing. You like me have grown up with the passion but not a lot of the knowledge that some posses. Reels ratios and what they mean are things that I have always just taken for granted. As long as you have a reel and it works what else matter right. Well I was wrong and to understand all this will help you to make better purchases and decisions when it comes to your hobby the great hobby of fishing.

So it is time to learn a little something more about the reels you are fishing. I will talk about the speeds, Slow, Medium, and Fast and also explain the gear ratio. There is a lot to all of this but I will try my best to make it as simple as possible. First I think it is important to have a little Terminology lesson,.

Gear Ratio - The reel is measured by how many time the spool turns as the handle is cranked.

IPT - (Inches Per Turn) - The measurement of how much line is retrieved into the reel with a single turn.
