Noise Mistakes of a Float Tuber

It was a cold morning start for the Irvine Lake Trout Derby.  It was also my second trip in a float tube and I was in such an eyes wide open moment.  I was not sure what to expect and was just a sponge ready to learn.  Float tube fishing as most of you know is a very unique style of fishing which affords you the ability to get to places others cannot.  This morning I quickly learned that when floating tube fishing you are right in the fish's environment.  As the morning began and the sun started to rise over the local hills in the canyon the trout started to come alive.  The trout were rising and the action began.  What happened though that surprised me is that trout were rising right next to me in the water, close enough that I could have touched them.  I mean we are a part of their environment, right in the water with them.

To be a good float tube fisher you need to always keep in mind that you are in the fish’s environment, but what does that mean.  It means you need to be aware of your presence when you are tubing.

1. Casting a shadow.

2. Splashing around.

3. Kicking the bottom with your fins.

4. Extra noise from above.
