Free your Fishing
Free Rig
The Free Rig is a weight that is slipped onto the line before you tie on the hook. It then can slide freely along the line. It looks like a Rig, used by a lot of steelhead, walleye, and trout fishermen.
The weight sinks straight down, consequently the bait stays up and sinks really slowly, so it stays in the water column for a long time. When you pull it, the bait then moves closer to the weight slowly. As the weight isn’t attached the line can move freely through the weight with almost no resistance, resulting in a very natural movement.
So how do you fish it? This rig will work great around grass beds as it can be made weedless. It also works great when fished off of banks into deeper water. If you locate structures where there are small drop offs be sure to have one rigged and ready to cast.
As you can see the Free Rig is very simple to set up. And I am sure you can see how you could deploy it in your favorite waters.
