Back to the Basics

We are always looking for the next best lure, something to out do everything else. That lure will be our secret weapon and catch more fish then the person next to us. But maybe it's always been there in our tackle box ready for action.

I remember when I first started fishing as a kid the idea of lure fishing was so exciting. Whenever I went to the tackle shop I would drool over all the lure options and dream about how to fish each one. Before heading out to the local pond in the summer I would pre plan my day with what spots I would deploy my new lures and what technique I would fish with them.

Now let's be honest it was all just dreams as it took years for me to perfect my skills and I am still working on these skills to this day. Of course when it comes to lures we all know how far they have come. What we see and purchase now are light years ahead of what we used 10 - 20 - 30 years ago.

But in 1993 a new lure boosting a Square tail with natural swimming action landed on fishing lines and changed things for us and our lure selection. Big Hammer with a great lagoon "Nothing kicks like the tail of a Big Hammer" was popping up in everyones tackle box. Weather fishing freshwater or Saltwater Big Hammer was the lure to have on the end of your line. As I got more into float tube fishing and fishing the Bays and Harbors I was quickly turned on to Big Hammer Swimbaits. These durable baits with amazing action quickly caught my attention as well as some fish. Why would I try anything else. Big Hammer was the bait to use in almost all situations.
