Flirtology - Fearless Flirting Module Two | Page 7
A
rm Cross:
People who are defensive or
guarded often protectively fold their
arms across their chests.
When you see that gesture,
coupled with crossed legs, you can
be fairly sure that
(a) you aren’t making a very
positive impression, and
(b) what you’re saying isn’t being
listened to very closely. Do anything
to get them to uncross: hand them a drink, drop something
and hope they pick it up, or give them a hug!
Angling Body Away From Others:
Be aware of how you are using your body language: things
like standing too far away from the other person, angling your
body away from them or not leaning into a conversation, might
give the impression that you are uncomfortable, or
disinterested in the conversation.
Did you know...
A group of student volunteers attended a series of
lectures. The first group were asked to keep their
legs uncrossed, arms unfolded and take a casual
sitting position. The second group were instructed
to keep their arms tightly folded across their chests
throughout the lectures. The groups were tested on
their retention of the subject matter and their
attitude towards the lecturer. The ‘arms folded’ group
retained 40% less information and had a more
critical opinion of the lecturer.
