e all have mental models,
or paradigms, of how we
think the world works.
There are different
models for different
situations. Once we form a
model, we justify it by
collecting ‘evidence’ to
prove our model is
correct. Through this
process, our models
become more deeply entrenched, as we become more involved
in believing our point of view is the right one.
Mental models are in operation everywhere we look. If there
are 30 people in a room, there are 30 different perspectives of
what’s happening in that room.
Let’s take an argument, for example. When you have a
disagreement with someone and believe you are 100%
correct, doesn’t that person also believe they are 100%
correct? Most likely, they are experiencing the world using
different models than you. Does that mean they are ‘more’
correct? Does it mean you are?
