o opposites attract? Yes, quite
possibly, but what happens after the
initial attraction fizzles out?
Relationship research
overwhelmingly supports the idea
that similarity leads to attraction and
better quality relationships. In fact,
attraction increases as similarity
between partners increases.
When our partner has similar values,
likes/dislikes, personality characteristics, hobbies, interests,
and background the relationship is more likely to succeed.
‘Fundamentals’ such as similar ages, religious beliefs,
education levels, and upbringing all play an important role in
successful long-term compatibility. It doesn’t mean that you
need to agree on everything, or be perfect clones, but these
basic fundamentals are key.
