Y
es, it’s great to have a goal for
directional purposes, but we
shouldn’t cling to it. We have no
control over the external factors
that could prevent us from
reaching it. If our goal is to get
to the airport on time, we can’t
control the big accident on the
highway or the unexpected road
closure. We CAN control our own
efforts, such as allowing extra
time or checking road conditions before we leave.
If our goal is to be promoted, we have no power over the
fact that our boss is a jerk, which means there’s is a big
possibility that we won’t get the promotion; we don’t have
any control over his or her whims. We do, however, have
control over our own steps of action!
Concentrate on the steps to get you towards your goal, not
the outcome.
Exercise Five:
Create 5 steps of action towards our goal:
E.g. Take up a new sport, go out 3 times a week, stop
hanging out with negative people, get a haircut and
make-up lesson etc.
It is very likely that you will find some of your action steps
in your ‘solutions’ from Exercise 4
Please write these on your Module One
exercises sheet
