We see the space as a free place for youth
from 11-25 years-old (the youngest ones,
11-14 years-old have a fixed service in
the early afternoon for homework support
the local secondary school cooperates
in addressing youth and families to the
service).
We develop with these youngsters a
method for learning through different tools
(visual, verbal, conceptual maps, colours,..)
according to their needs and learning
styles. So, you see that we “put our hands”
also in formal education and apply
non-formal methods! With the older youth
(15-25), in the second part of the afternoon
have open activities, it means that there is
not a fixed programme every day.
Educators often propose special activities
like workshops, projects, games, meetings.
The spirit is to see the Centre like a place
for sociality, meeting, talking together and
play (there are some collective games like
ping-pong and soccer table and board
games). Sharing ideas and talk, sharing
the same space, bring in youth an attitude
to participation and cooperation,
the respect of social issues and improve
peer competences.
As educators, our task is to give them some
inputs and debrief the process with them.
