Etymologically, the word “Education” has
been derived from different Latin words:
a) “educare” which means “to bring out” or
“to nourish”; b) “educere” which means “to
lead out” or “to draw out”; c) “educatum’”
which means “act of teaching” or “training”;
d) “educatus” which means “to bring”.
We should get back to the roots of the
origin of education, and understand that
is meant to bring out the better of each
one. It is not originally intend to make
people memorize or have grades, but to
make them think for themselves, to bring
out the inner talents of each of them,
individually, as a form of evolution and
personal development.
At a certain moment in our history, education
was set in a system that provides tools and
methods to develop the necessary set of
skills needed in that particularly moment
in history, to integrate better the labor
market having people with the necessary
professional competences.
Courses were created to meet these
needs and new ones continue to appear
according to the new jobs that appeared
(IT programmers, web-designers, etc.).
Of course that this is important and we
should continue to have this kind of
education, but we cannot forget that
education is much more than this. It is a
bigger wider concept that should combine
different areas to nourish people, to lead
out or to draw out and to be a chance to
improve oneself in the area he/she wishes to.
We are forgetting all the things we should
learn that are not primarily directed to the
labor market, but to the development of
society and humanity as an all.
The world needs artists, philosophers,
dreamers, leaders, all kind of people in all
areas. People need to be passionate about
their education, exactly like when they
emerge in different worlds when they are
reading a book. Education is an art and a
teacher and trainer is an artist that sees not
a blank canvas in each person but a master
piece just wanting to show up. Like
Michaelangelo said: “Every block of stone
has a statue inside it and it is the task of the
sculptor to discover it.”
We hope this magazine can inspire you
to follow your own path of education.
