BUSINESS TIPS FOR RESIDENTS AT UofL
The fifth annual Residents in Business program recently invited
over 100 physicians who will be entering their last year of residency
to learn the basics of business. The event took place May 16-18 at
the U of L University Club and Alumni Center. To help residents,
experienced physicians and attorneys volunteered to give talks
and assist in the program, which was organized by the U of L
School of Medicine in partnership with GLMS.
GLMS pledged $18,000 to the Residents in Business program over
the course of three years to help maintain the level of success it
enjoys today.
The three-day seminar encouraged residents to consider the finan-
cial aspects of a career in medicine including contract negotiation
and analysis, revenue generation, financial reports and more.
Members of OPM Education, which has worked with the program
since its inception, guided each day’s topics.
GLMS provided a distinguished guest speaker for each day of the
event. GLMS Secretary Dr. Monalisa Tailor, Outgoing President Dr.
John Roberts and Incoming President-Elect Dr. Wayne Tuckson
each spoke during the event, encouraging residents to pay careful
attention to the career they’re choosing.
“Protect yourself at all times,” said Dr. Tuckson. “Never forget your
value to yourself, your organization and that patient in front of you.
Our primary focus is on patient care. That’s the most important
thing at the end of the day.”
