The GLMS Strategic Plan was approved by the Board.“ There are four main goals of our new strategic plan,” said Dr. Zaring.“ Goal one: Engage and empower employed and private practice physicians. Goal two: Conduct effective year-round legislative advocacy. Goal three: Determine the interests and needs of younger physicians, and offer meaningful services and benefits. Goal four: Improve the society’ s organizational effectiveness.” GLMS CEO Bert Guinn commented saying,“ To me the biggest change in our strategic plan is the word‘ empower.’ We want to do more than engage our physicians. We want to empower them to engage their patients and the community even more.” Please see page 6 for the complete GLMS Strategic Plan.

The Board discussed a bylaws change to merge the Judicial Council and Bioethics Committee.“ Currently as it is now, the Judicial Council was supposed to look at issues of conflicts between physicians but since that has moved into hospital systems, their role has been less and less. The bioethics committee has had a similar issue,” said Dr. Zaring.“ So the thought was to have the current members be tasked with coming up with a plan and give that to us, the Board.” More news will come on the potential merger in the months ahead.“ This would be a significant change,” said Bert Guinn.

President-Elect Wayne Tuckson, MD, told the Board that he’ d received very positive feedback on the filming done by KET during the 2016 Wear the White Coat Experience and announced,“ KET would like to come back and do filming again for Wear the White Coat.” They were welcomed by the Board and will be present at this year’ s WTWC Experience which begins in October.

GLMS Director of Member & Client Services Jessica Williams gave an update on the transition of the GLMS credentials verification service to a new database.“ We currently have the highest volume of applications we’ ve ever had. So GLMS is trying to push through to the new database as quickly as possible because that will solve a lot of issues we’ re having with that high volume. We’ ve selected Cactus Credentialing Software, and they’ re currently building our database on their servers.” Williams said the scheduled date to start re-appointment applications with the new database will be October 1. The new database will be entirely digital and also capable of importing CAQH data from day one. GLMS staff will train with the new system in September, and then GLMS will set dates for hospital staff to train as well.
