GLMS INCOMING LEADERS JOIN 2016
LEADERSHIP LOUISVILLE
Leadership Louisville is a 10-month experience designed to
educate community leaders on what makes the Louisville area
so distinctive and build on their already notable skills in order to
better learn the challenges and successes in local government,
education, economic development, social services and the arts.
The GLMS wishes to congratulate President-Elect John Roberts,
MD, and Executive Vice President/CEO Bert Guinn, MBA, CAE, for
their recent selections into the Leadership Louisville Class of 2016.
“Leadership Louisville is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join
with other enthusiastic leaders of our great city. Many of the bonds
that are already being developed will last a lifetime. Who knows
how many innovative seeds from these classes will blossom into
full-blown, solid solutions for solving our city’s most challenging
problems and taking us to the next level? It’s a sincere honor to go
through this experience with Dr. Roberts,” said Guinn.
DR. TOBIN HOSTS CATO LUNCHEON
GLMS Past President Gordon Tobin, MD, served as featured speaker
for the 2015 Fall CATO Meeting at the Hyatt Regency during the KMA
Annual Meeting.
Hosted by GLMS and introduced by Charles Oberst, MD, the event
gave dozens of senior physicians and their spouses the chance to
meet, have lunch together and learn some history. Dr. Tobin’s presentation was entitled, “The Lost Story of How the Civil War Defined
Destiny for Medical Schools of Kentucky.”
GLMS NEWS SEPTEMBER 2015
As 2015 is the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War, Dr. Tobin
celebrated the work of the Louisville physicians who were so instrumental in helping people and building a medical community.
“The Civil War caused a cascade of events which greatly expanded
Kentucky’s medical schools after the war,” Dr. Tobin said. “Louisville
physicians were responsible for saving thousands of lives and helping
to rebuild the medical system of the decimated south. In my opinion,
this is Kentucky’s greatest contribution to medicine.”
