HEROIN SYMPOSIUM PRESENTED BY THE HEALING PLACE On October 28 at the Louisville Marriott East, The Healing Place recovery clinic will present “Heroin: About Face – Reversing an Epidemic.” The all-day event is meant to inform and mobilize leaders throughout Louisville to help our city in the fight against heroin addiction. TOBIN HOSTS CATO LUNCHEON GLMS Past President Gordon Tobin, MD, served as featured speaker for the 2015 Fall CATO Meeting at the Hyatt Regency during the KMA Annual Meeting. Hosted by GLMS and introduced by Charles Oberst, MD, the event gave dozens of senior physicians and their spouses the chance to meet, have lunch together and learn some history. Dr. Tobin’s presentation was entitled, “The Lost Story of How the Civil War Defined Destiny for Medical Schools of Kentucky.” GLMS NEWS SEPTEMBER 2015 As 2015 is the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War, Dr. Tobin celebrated the work of the Louisville physicians who were so instrumental in helping people and building a medical community. “The Civil War caused a cascade of events which greatly expanded Kentucky’s medical schools after the war,” Dr. Tobin said. “Louisville physicians were responsible for saving thousands of lives and helping to rebuild the medical system of the decimated south. In my opinion, this is Kentucky’s greatest contribution to medicine.” 5
